The U.S.S. Murphy (D.D. 603) was a WW2 Benson class destroyer built in 1941. She saw operations ranging from the invasion of North Africa, to escort duty in the North Atlantic and the invasion of Gela, Sicily. In 1943, Murphy escorted convoys between the U.S. and the U.K. On October 21, 1943, outside New York Harbor, the tanker Bulkoil struck the Murphy portside. The forward half of the ship was sheared off and sank with 38 officers and men aboard. She rests in 255 feet/77 meters of water. Shout
